Three students in Professor Hunt McKinnon’s interior design sophomore studio class discuss their designs for renovating Downtown Rocky Mount, N.C., commercial spaces. Students in the class were divided into work teams to design renovations for four under-utilized buildings in the downtown by converting them into trendy spaces where people would like to work, shop, eat, and reside. A hallmark of ECU’s interior design program is that students act as consultants for real “clients” very early in the curriculum, thus contributing to their ability to solve real-world design challenges upon graduation.
