Interior Design Software Programs

One of the celebrated professions today is interior design. You can see dozens and dozens of interior designers and interior design shows on today’s television. Whether it is a home makeover show or a just about any type of talk shows, you can see the work of renowned interior designers. And let’s face it; almost everybody wants to be an interior designer.

Remodeling and changing the décor of your own space or home can be one of the most exhilarating choices. The new software for interior design takes the guesswork out of redesigning your home. A great resource, the software can benefit those who make their living doing this work or those who are in the process of learning. Making the job much easier by putting together several interior design packages to show potential clients and present clients is one aspect.

The software comes with a startup guide to help you navigate your home remodeling or interior makeover.  Should there be any problem in-house interior design assistance is provided.  The project starts with floor planning and spans to the makeover of bathrooms, doors and windows, cabinets, lighting, redoing ceilings and walls, and adding exciting colors and textures to the interiors.  With the software, anyone can design his interiors and watch his designs come to life.

The software also provides the support to create 3D models of your dream home or remodeling ideas, and landscaping.  It would be easy to switch, mix and match interiors and exteriors to create the look you want for your home design or home remodeling project. There are several home interior design software products and these are coming up with new additions to expand one’s options in interior remodeling or design to help designers visualize materials such as wood, cobblestone, and glass mosaic as they are used outdoors or indoors.

Designers or DIY home designers can design anything for the kitchen, bathroom, garage, home office, closets, patios, and more.  The virtual renderings of the home exteriors in 3D can be viewed on all sides; and lighting can be toned down or brightened to observe the effect on colors and textures.

The interior design software comes with quick start templates that are customizable, ready made graphics for almost everything to spice up the interiors, and the automatic drawing is a great tool for those who cannot create good-looking results.  The software is so easy to use and it cuts the time to plan and design home modeling or remodeling because all you have to do is drag and drop what takes your fancy or click the buttons for specific details.

Using the software, you can immediately observe how new paint color will transform your bedroom or kitchen, or how an antique sofa will fit in the family room.  There’s no second guessing how the transformed rooms will look because the results are shown to the last detail of your improvement plans.

There are a variety of interior design software, each with their best features such as creating panoramic views, adjustable lighting, templates, editing button, virtual inspections of the completed remodeling job and much more. This is an exciting development in interior design for students, professionals, and homemakers who want to try their hand at home remodeling.

My friend is going to school for Interior Design. Not certified yet, can she still consult?

She’s finishing with school this month, she hasn’t passed whatever certification she needs to be an official Interior Designer, but I have another friend who wants to hire her as a consultant, can she legally do that? Are there laws that prohibit her from doing certain things? We’re in Illinois.. Any help would be appreciated.

It depends on the state laws. In CA where we practice, she would have to register with the state board of equalization, get a business license and file a DBA first. In some states, one cannot purchase at wholesale or "to the trade" which means that she could not get a discount on purchases from the design showrooms for furniture, window and flooring treatments, accessories, etc. which would significantly curtail profits. Further, before she consults it would behoove her to obtain E & O insurance, get a bond and business insurance with liability coverage to protect herself.

What are the best interior design schools in the US?

The University of Cincinnati in Ohio
Pratt Institute in New York
Kansas State in Kansas
Cornell in New York
Arizona State in Arizona

An Interior Design School Is Affordable

Interior design courses provide a wider range of options for students seeking dream jobs in design.  Students, who dream of better pay in the profession, opt for the interior design course over the interior decorator program.  This is just a preview to the advantages offered by extensive interior design courses available in colleges and universities.

One of the first methods is being able to do this online. Instead of traveling to New York or another area you are not accustomed to, all the same classes we used to taking classrooms can now be taken online. These have become much cheaper than attending a two or four-year college. Fact, even the top design schools are offering online courses whether you live 3000 miles away or simply one.

Interior design demands broader range of skills, hence the earning potential is much higher than interior decorating.  To prepare the full time student for an associate degree in interior design, schools and universities incorporate modules in Design Theory; Historical Styles; Textiles and Finishes; Basic Drafting; Color for Interiors; Visual Concepts; Residential Design; Kitchen and Bath Design; Perspective; Materials and Methods of Construction; Environmental Psychology; Rendering; Modern Architecture and Design; Woodwork Detailing; Lighting; Furniture Design; Graphic Communications; and several elective subjects.

Interior decorating courses are also offered online include major modules in design elements and principles; color theory; decorative paint finishes; planning rooms; estimating material quantities; textiles, window treatments; carpets; upholstery; internal fittings; lighting;  and working with wood, stone, glass, and metal.  Online students are also taught to prepare plans and elevations.  The course includes visits to exhibitions and to top it, professional practice is included.

All interior design related courses develop personal character and skills to turn out students with good communication skills, aptitude for technical knowledge, computer skills, and the capability to judge colors and materials quality.  Students are expected too to develop high moral and ethical standards.  These skills are needed because interior design jobs require the interior designer/decorator to work with engineers, architect, project managers, suppliers, and clients.

Interior design courses branch out to different decorating specializations, such as store decorating, commercial decorating, stage decorating, and much more because the course offers an in-depth perspective of the aesthetic and technical aspects in design. The course is completed in four years but there are options for an associate degree in interior design that takes only two years.   Interior design courses may vary but the basics are generally identical.  The extras enhance the curriculum different

Before venturing into interior design, evaluate your creative expression in decorating and enhancing design.  Online sources help prospective students assess their capabilities to help them determine if the course is for them.  This is understandable because the course branches out to different career paths that call for specific skills and aptitudes in design.

As a preparation for an extensive online or school-environment course, visit the online sites of different schools/universities to compare fees and courses.   After completing the degree, new interior design graduates can start as design assistants or jumpstart their careers as self-employed professionals or part-time/full-time interior designers.  It also helps that it is easy to build up one’s interior design portfolio in a short time.
