This is my thesis project for Interior Design from the Ringling School of Art and Design (class of 2006). The concept was to use 3D software to covey two moods. I used a club I designed and created a walk through animation showing what the space would look like on opening day and what it would look like after a natural disaster and/ or the ravages of time, on an abandoned space.

I used Maya 7.0, Premiere Pro.

I’m a junior in high school and i have to start looking at colleges, does any one have any opinions on the best college for interior design?

I agree with the poster above, PARSONS in NYC is your best bet.

I used to own it, I cant remember too much except

1) university of Cincinatti

2)?
3) RISD
4) Pratt
5)?

I am torn between interior design and art history…if I would go for interior design, do I actually get a bachelor’s degree or is it just a certificate? Or does that depend on the school? Also, do I still have to take the Gen Eds like Math and English to go to school for interior design? Any info will be helpful.

Also, can anyone recomend good design schools near the Philly region of PA??

Definitely do Interior Design. I was in Fine Arts/Art History at a (overpriced) reputable school, and there is very little opportunity for that as a career. I am now enrolled in Interior Design, and I am already in a firm making a good salary. There are some good schools, just make sure that it is "Interior Design" Bachelors and not decorating or a certificate program. Interior Design is a degree that is much akin to Architecture BA or MA, and can bring in the same salary. Right now ID (Interior Design) is in the process of being added as a licensed profession, and already it is in some states. You will have to take (generally) One Math credit and two english credits. I recommend taking some at a cheaper community college and transferring them in. I transferred about 12 total credits and saved big $ on my total tuition. Most ID and Architecture school have work as a requirement so you can make money at the same time. I don’t know if any PA schools, but there is RISD in RI, great school, and I think MD has one or two as well. Most schools with an Architecture department have Interior Design as well.

Please add any thoughts on interior design/architecture as a career for a highschool student looking at colleges.

i want to major in interior designing but i don’t want the whole college to be JUST about it. like, with some other big majors to….my point is i don’t want to go to a school with just that.
